OCEAN EXPERIENCE

Ethical Whale Watching Expeditions in Sri Lanka

The deep waters off the southern coast of Sri Lanka are recognized internationally as one of the ocean's great marine corridors. Ceylon Sea School coordinates responsible whale watching trips designed for ocean lovers who want to witness wild pelagic marine life with patience and profound respect.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about our crew credentials or safety standards? Learn more on our about page or read recent guest experiences in our reviews.

Are whale sightings guaranteed on every trip?+

No. Whales are wild animals in their natural open-ocean habitat, so sightings cannot be guaranteed on any given trip. Our spotters and skipper use extensive experience to maximize viewing opportunities while always respecting the animals.

What responsible viewing guidelines do you follow?+

We maintain a minimum respectful buffer distance, never cross a whale's path, cut engine noise near pods, and limit viewing duration so animals remain unhurried and unstressed.

What happens if sea conditions are rough?+

Passenger safety and comfort come first. If conditions are rough or squally, trips are postponed or rescheduled with full notice.

What should I bring on the trip?+

Bring sunscreen, a hat with strap, sunglasses, drinking water, light layers for early morning, and motion-sickness medication taken prior to boarding if needed.
